The City’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services has obligated or encumbered $880,000 of the $1M in General Fund Supplemental Appropriations dedicated to forest restoration and fuel mitigation work for City Parks and Open Space properties. Future treatment projects are underway to commit the remaining $120,000 to areas such as North Cheyenne Cañon and Blodgett Peak Open Space.
Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services was also awarded a $140,000 cost share grant match from the Department of Natural Resources which will employ Mile High Youth Corps to perform work in Red Rock Cañon and Ute Valley Park Open Spaces. Parks will soon begin public meetings with Friends of Red Rock Cañon and Ute Valley Park organizations.
Recently, Dennis Will, Colorado Springs city forester, gave a presentation to explain the upcoming forest enhancement and wildfire mitigation project that will occur on 23 acres in the Ute Valley Park open space in September. Click here to view the slides from this presentation.
