ROCKRIMMON BREAK-IN:
On Friday,
January 3, a crime was reported in progress at the 100 block of
Buckeye Drive in the Rockrimmon area. A
female victim had come home to find an intruder who held her at
gunpoint. Eventually, the intruder moved to the upper level of the
home and the victim escaped safely. The intruder was not caught but
was described to be a white, male about 5'7," with a thin build
and had what appeared to be flannel sleep wear wrapped around his
face like a mask.
Colorado
Springs Police Dept. has been investigating several
residential burglaries occurring throughout our area. The criminals
ring the doorbell of homes and/or knock on the front door. When there
is no answer, they go around to the back of the home and break in
through a window or door. You can find more information on our
local Police Blotter. As
always, please report anything suspicious to the CSPD @
(719)444-7000. You can also remain anonymous by contacting Pikes Peak
Area Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867). PHOA continues to
contract for police surveillance in the Pinecliff
area as a deterrent to crime.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT:
The Cheyenne
Mountain Zoo is hosting an Electronics Recycling Event this Saturday, January 11,
2014 from 10am-2pm. Because it is illegal and extremely harmful to our
environment to toss electronics in the trash, the Zoo is raising
awareness by hosting this convenient event.
Cheyenne
Mountain Zoo posted: "Columbite-tantalite (coltan) is a crucial metal needed for cell phone
manufacturing, but the extraction of this metal is devastating to
gorilla habitat. Recycling old cell phones reduces the need to mine
more coltan" therefore,
helping to protect gorilla habitat.
In this
recycling event, they "guarantee data security." If you
need to get rid of some electronics in the new year, here is a
responsible solution to check out!
