ROCKRIMMON BREAK-IN:

On Friday, January 3, a crime was reported in progress at the 100 block of Buckeye Drive in the Rockrimmon area. A female victim had come home to find an intruder who held her at gunpoint. Eventually, the intruder moved to the upper level of the home and the victim escaped safely. The intruder was not caught but was described to be a white, male about 5'7," with a thin build and had what appeared to be flannel sleep wear wrapped around his face like a mask.

Colorado Springs Police Dept. has been investigating several residential burglaries occurring throughout our area. The criminals ring the doorbell of homes and/or knock on the front door. When there is no answer, they go around to the back of the home and break in through a window or door.  You can find more information on our local Police Blotter. As always, please report anything suspicious to the CSPD @ (719)444-7000. You can also remain anonymous by contacting Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867).  PHOA continues to contract for police surveillance in the Pinecliff area as a deterrent to crime.

A public hearing for the proposed Whistling Pines Gun Club will be held at City Hall (107 N. Nevada Ave) on Thursday, January 16th, 2014 at 8:30am. This will be a very important milestone (and vote) with regard to the gun club development. Anyone can attend.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE - Thurs. January 23rd 2014:

The PHOA board would like to invite you to the annual "Membership Drive" to be held at Arceo's again this year. They are located conveniently at 4608 Rusina Rd.

The date/time will be Thursday, January 23rd, 2014 from 5:30-7:30pm. Last year was such a huge success, Arceo's has agreed to close their restaurant in order to better accommodate our group this year. In addition, Arceo's is even going to offer a special deal ($3) for a new drink, the "Pinecliff Margarita!"

Dinner will be FREE to PHOA members and $10 per person for non-members. Attendees will be able to sign up or renew their HOA membership and/or pre-pay for the Pinecliff "Unified Trash Service" (UTS) program as well. Hope to see you there!

GREAT NEWS! Leonie has negotiated our UTS rates for this year and Bestway has agreed to keep them at the same great rates as last year! Curbside Trash Service (1 container + 2 bags/week) will remain $132 per year; Curbside Trash PLUS Recycle Service will remain $192 per year. The new sign-up forms will be available at the Membership Drive.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT:

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is hosting an Electronics Recycling Event this Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 10am-2pm. Because it is illegal and extremely harmful to our environment to toss electronics in the trash, the Zoo is raising awareness by hosting this convenient event.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo posted: "Columbite-tantalite (coltan) is a crucial metal needed for cell phone manufacturing, but the extraction of this metal is devastating to gorilla habitat. Recycling old cell phones reduces the need to mine more coltan" therefore, helping to protect gorilla habitat.

In this recycling event, they "guarantee data security." If you need to get rid of some electronics in the new year, here is a responsible solution to check out!

Cell Phones: FREE

Computer towers/laptops: FREE

Christmas lights: FREE

Televisions (measured diagonally): $1 per inch

Monitors: $10

Hard drive destruction: $5

Small appliances: $5

Printers/copiers/fax machines: $5
